Musical Portraits - A harpsichord recital by Dr Anthony Noble

Dr Anthony Noble, harpsichordist and musicologist specialising in keyboard music of the late seventeenth and eighteenth centuries, will present an evening of French harpsichord music. All the works bear, as title, the names of the composers’ contemporaries, often other musicians. François Couperin, one of the composers whose music will be performed, said that his pieces ‘are portraits of a kind, which under my fingers have been found to be tolerable likenesses’. The recital will also include music by Jacques Duphly and Claude-Bénigne Balbastre as well as some of the Pieces de Viole of Antoine Forqueray, in the versions published by his son Jean-Baptiste Forqueray, almost certainly arranged for the harpsichord by Jean-Baptist’s second wife, the great harpsichordist Marie-Rose Dubois.

7.00pm Tickets: £10.00 (Concessions £7.50)
